As I was browsing, I thought of the books that some of the boys in my classes have liked over the past few years, and it was difficult to come up with as many as I did. That's when I decided I needed to share my finds and research what others are sharing so I can help out my boys! Courtney says she recently learned that because it is difficult to find books that interest boys, they fall behind girls in reading as they get older.
Let's start with this year:

I remember when I was in school and The Teacher from the Black Lagoon came out. Do you remember that book? A small boy was worried about his new teacher, Mrs. Green, and how the kids made up rumors about her breathing fire, and more! Well they have extended the series into Chapter Books now! I have not personally read these books, but a bunch of boys in my class have been ordering these from Scholastic and sharing them. I'm just happy they are reading!!!
Next up:

I loved these books when I was in school and they are still popular with the boys, probably because they are so silly and the chapters are short so it keeps their interest. We read these together because I like to change some of the words like "stupid" and "shut up" to "silly" and "be quiet." These would probably be good for boys to read independently when they are a little bit more mature, like third or fourth grade.

These books are also some favorites of the boys in my class. I think it helps that the main characters are boys and, for Willy Wonka, it has a chocolate factory in it. They BEGGED me to read it. Be careful, the original version has a bad word in it. Might be best for a read aloud!

These are some new books I found last year, completely by accident, at BJ's and so I bought them. One of my boys noticed the titles and picked them up, and he told all of the other students (girls and boys) about how great they were. I think this is a new series, and they keep adding new books so keep a look out for them :)

This one has been hard to find online but we have it in our book room at school. It has to do with a detective, Robbie McDragon, and how he tries to stop George, the self-proclaimed Dragon Slayer before he kills the McDragon clan. George has turned his castle into a Dragon Burger factory and also uses the skins of the dragons to make suits of armor.
So those are the books that I wanted to share. What kinds of books do your boys like?

My kids love the Weird School Books. Scholastic had Mrs. Hubble is Trouble for $1 and I think I had 12 orders for it - all boys.
Great books!
